Washington, DC (May 25, 2026) – The National Organization on Disability (NOD) today announced that former U.S. Senator Bob Casey will join the Disability Policy Roundtable as its new Co-Chair.
Throughout a distinguished career in public service – from statewide office in Pennsylvania to three terms in the United States Senate – Senator Casey established himself as one of the nation’s leading champions for Americans with disabilities and workforce accessibility.
“I’ve known Senator Casey for decades. His leadership, character, and experience will help guide the Disability Policy Roundtable’s mission of strengthening workforce opportunities for people with disabilities,” said Tom Ridge, former Governor of Pennsylvania and Chairman Emeritus of the Disability Policy Roundtable.
Senator Casey was the chief architect of the Achieving a Better Life Experience (ABLE) Act, landmark legislation allowing people with disabilities to save for education, housing, and other essential needs through tax-advantaged savings accounts. The law is widely regarded as one of the most significant disability policy achievements since the passage of the Americans with Disabilities Act.
“I’m honored that Governor Ridge asked me to succeed him as the next Co-Chair of the Disability Roundtable,” said Senator Casey. “Advancing rights and opportunities for people with disabilities was central to my work in the U.S. Senate, and I look forward to continuing those efforts alongside Congressman Langevin and NOD to drive meaningful progress.”
From creating pilot grant programs that help people with disabilities transition into competitive integrated employment to leading legislation aimed at ending subminimum wage payments, Senator Casey’s work in Congress consistently reflected the core mission of the Disability Policy Roundtable.
“Senator Casey was one of the most influential disability policy champions in Congress, and I know he will bring that same passion and leadership to the Disability Policy Roundtable,” said Jim Langevin, former Congressman and Disability Policy Roundtable Co-Chair.
The Disability Policy Roundtable meets quarterly to collaborate on major legislative priorities and develop policies that expand workforce accessibility and employment opportunities for people with disabilities. The Roundtable is proudly nonpartisan, working with both Democrats and Republicans to advance solutions to the challenges facing the disability community.
“We are thrilled to welcome Senator Casey as Co-Chair of the Disability Policy Roundtable,” said Beth Sirull, CEO of the National Organization on Disability. “The Roundtable includes 16 of the nation’s leading disability advocacy organizations, many of which worked closely with Senator Casey throughout his Senate career. His record of leadership and dedication to this work speaks for itself, and we are excited to continue partnering with him in this new role.”
