Making Policy Reflect Real Lives
People with disabilities make up over 70 million Americans, but government policy hasn’t kept up with changing needs. Outdated laws, systemic bias, lack of knowledge, and inaccessible infrastructure continue to limit opportunity.
Through the Disability Policy Roundtable, a coalition we co-convened with the American Association of People with Disabilities (AAPD), we work with national partners to advance cross-sector, bipartisan solutions that respond to these inequities and create the context and infrastructure where people with disabilities can excel.
We ensure that the disability community’s voices, priorities, and lived experiences help shape the laws that impact our lives, from competitive employment reforms to digital accessibility.

Current Legislative Priorities
- Passing the Transformation to Competitive Integrated Employment Act (TCIEA): Phasing out 14(c) certificates, ending subminimum wage & expanding access to integrated employment.
- Passing the Disability Employment Incentive Act (H.R. 3765): Boosts tax credits to help businesses hire and support workers with disabilities.
- Passing the SSI Savings Penalty Elimination Act: Updates SSI’s asset limits so disabled Americans can save for emergencies without losing benefits.
- Passing the Ensuring Access to Medicaid Buy-In Programs Act: Expands Medicaid Buy-In, enabling disabled individuals to work while keeping healthcare coverage.
- Passing the Think Differently About Disability Employment Act: Requires SBA and National Council on Disability to help disabled entrepreneurs and improve accessibility.
